If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a chocolate box home in a quintessentially English village, then Eleys might just steal your heart. Dating back to the 17th Century, Eleys has been a much-loved family home for nearly two decades, and has been thoughtfully extended and restored by the current owner. This is a house bursting with character and charm. We think you’ll love the beamed ceilings, the huge inglenook fireplace and the cosy atmosphere these walls have nurtured over 400 years.
Enter the house through the front porch, which leads into the first of two cosy sitting rooms. The first thing you’ll notice about this room is the huge inglenook fireplace with the original bread oven. The double aspect in this room gives you plenty of light and views to the garden.
The triple aspect family room is to the right and could work well as either a playroom for younger or older kids, or a more formal sitting room. Stairs lead from this room to the bedrooms above.
Downstairs there is a good-sized kitchen with an electric range cooker with gas hob, butlers sink, flagstone floors and wooden work surfaces. Off the kitchen is a lovely dining room with exposed beams.
Upstairs, there’s a spacious open landing area with room for a desk and bookshelves – perfect for home working.
The master bedroom features built in wardrobes, and currently has a walk-in closet with potential to convert into an en-suite bathroom. There are three further good-sized bedrooms, one with en-suite, and a family bathroom.
Outside there’s a good-sized south facing garden, with lovely lawns, mature plants and shrubs and a patio area. The detached garage is to the side of the house and is currently used as a home gym with ladder access to a ‘den’ above. The back of the garage houses a laundry room with plumbing and electricity for a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The gorgeous village of Buckland is home to lots of lovely Cotswold stone cottages and is bursting with history. It features an award-winning pub – The Lamb, an Ofsted Outstanding CofE Primary School, a village hall with a host of regular activities including a toddler group, an indoor community swimming pool and St Mary the Virgin church, which dates back to the 12th Century.
There’s a lovely rural feel to this village, and a great community, yet you’re not too far from access to Oxford, Swindon, the M4 and the town of Faringdon where a new Waitrose has just opened.
There’s a great choice of private schools nearby including St Hugh’s, The Dragon, Cokethorpe, St Edward’s Headington and Radley. A private bus runs from the village to the nearby independent schools, and a there is also a bus service to Faringdon Community College (rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted).
